We’ll perform at this special justice-centered General Assembly, including at the “Friday Evening Community Celebration with Partners” in Civic Space Park, which is open to the public! We’ll also have a booth in the Exhibit Hall.

The pushback against AZ’s repressive laws and leaders continues: Russell Pearce, author of SB 1070, was voted out of office in a recall election this fall by the citizens of his district. The Obama Administration has filed a lawsuit to “halt alleged discriminatory practices” by the notorious Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Grassroots organizations, including Puente, National Day Laborers Organizing Network and Mi Familia Vota, are fighting on the ground everyday. And now the worldwide UU community is gathering in Phoenix: “We remain united in our opposition to the unjust laws that Arizona has passed and that have been passed in other states. We are appalled by the human rights abuses that are taking place along our borders as well as in other states in the guise of 'border security.’ The time is coming for all Unitarian Universalists to speak out about these injustices and join voices with our partners in Phoenix.”

Busboys & Poets – 5th & K
1025 5th Street NW

We’ll be singing at this event organized by our friends at Move To Amend & CodePink!

“Move to Amend is barnstorming across the country, and we’re coming to a town near you! Catch a talk in your area, and learn how you can get involved in the campaign to end corporate personhood and demand real democracy!”

“Move to Amend executive committee members David Cobb, attorney and lifelong activist, and George Friday, anti-oppression trainer and community organizer, will be touring the Mid-Atlantic this July, in an effort to build connections, inspire activism, and reveal the origins of corporate power in America.”

“Move to Amend is a national coalition of over 212,000 people and organizations whose goal is amending the United States Constitution to end corporate rule by building a multiracial, cross-class democracy movement. George and David’s presentations are part history lesson and part heart-felt call-to-action! 'Challenging Corporate Rule & Creating Democracy’ aims to help local folks understand how they can work to abolish corporate personhood and establish a government of, by, and for the people.”

Foreclose on the Bomb, Not the People!
William Payne Park
Vasco Road and Patterson Pass Road

Our second year singing at this annual demonstration at Livermore Lab, one of the two labs responsible for designing every warhead in the US nuclear arsenal. 4:15 PM local time Sunday is 8:15 AM August 6 in Hiroshima, the precise time the A-bomb exploded.

“Expect great singers, musicians and speakers who will connect us with Japanese A-bomb survivors and other radiation victims at the site where the U.S. is spending billions of tax- dollars on new and modified nuclear weapons. This year’s Hiroshima commemoration will highlight the economic reality of ever-increasing nuclear weapons spending while people’s basic needs go unmet.”

We Are Woman
March & Rally
West Lawn of the Capitol

10am-4pm

We’ll be performing at this rally! Stay tuned for our performance time.

“Since November of 2010, over 1,100 pieces of legislation have been introduced that have nothing to do with jobs or the economy or solving any real problems in America. These 1,100 pieces of legislation are all about one thing: ending women’s rights as we know them. This is a war on women, and we will fight back.

We are revitalized today to fight for the full and equal rights of all women, and we look to a future where the next generations of women are treated with dignity and respect. We Are Woman wants to fulfill a promise: the promise that our equal protection, our equal participation will be attained and that we will be recognized, not as a 'special interest ' or as an 'issue’ to be ignored or placated, but as women. Strong, powerful, loving and brave women. We are America. We Are Woman.”

Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) has worked with families in rural farming communities in Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama since 1997. Using organic vegetable gardens, wood-conserving stoves, biogas digesters and a host of other projects, SHI’s local field trainers work together with families, individuals and communities to preserve our planet’s tropical forests while overcoming poverty. “Bradley Manning: Truth on Trial”
Georgetown University Law Center
12th floor Gewirz Hall
120 F St., NW (near F and 2nd Sts, NW)

We will be joining this speak out and fundraiser for the campaign to support Bradley Manning! With CHRIS HEDGES Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, and war correspondent, along with special guests THOMAS DRAKE Former National Security Agency senior executive, whistle-blower, JESSELN RADACK Former Department of Justice ethics adviser, whistle-blower US ARMY COLONEL ANN WRIGHT (ret.) Former State Department diplomat, whistle-blower, and DAVID HOUSE Friend of Bradley Manning’s, co-founder of BMSN, Activist will be speaking about the prosecution of Bradley Manning.

“Bradley Manning and the whistleblower web site WikiLeaks are credited with providing information that helped precipitate earthshaking historic events, including the Arab Spring and the recent withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. More notably, Manning and WikiLeaks are also credited with (and criminally accused of) release of the so-called “Collateral Murder” video footage of the slaughter of Reuters reporters and other civilians by the US military in Baghdad. For his alleged role in this “crime,” Manning is enduring one of the most aggressive legal prosecutions in American history.

Manning is approaching 900 days in prison without a court martial, and he shouldn’t be on trial in the first place. Bradley had the courage to potentially sacrifice his future for an informed citizenry, and we owe it to him to support him today. Join us September 30 for a tribute to the truth, and those who work tirelessly to expose it.”
